  • This utility is being released as a version 1.1 and, as such, may have additional bugs or errors that are not outlined in this Errata guide which result in system instability, data corruption or incorrect operation of the software or computer system in which it is implemented.
  • We are looking into these issues, and new releases will be available on this site
  • AMD Fusion for Desktops will run on any PC with an AMD processor, but offers additional tuning for such systems with AMD chipsets and graphics

Errata

  • Some systems may hang when running profiles utilizing AMD OverDrive CPU tuning or when AMD OverDrive is open, requiring a reboot
  • When AMD Fusion for Desktops is disengaged, the system may not be fully restored to its previous state, requiring a reboot
  • Some applications that are shut down will not automatically start back up when AMD Fusion for Desktops disengages
  • Some applications may not shut down as intended when AMD Fusion for Desktops engages
  • The application window will not remain on a secondary display when switching between the simple and advanced views
  • A new profile will overwrite an existing profile with the same name, without a warning message
  • AMD Fusion for Desktops may not uninstall properly if it is running when the uninstall process is initiated

Q: What is the application used for?

AMD Fusion Utility for Desktops is designed to allow users to enhance their PC for the best performance and/or power efficiency state based on their usage model.

The target user of the application are customers that use their computer in multiple usage scenarios, are knowledgeable about computer systems and software, and want a quick and easy way to tune their PC for an optimal performance state based on their usage model.*

Q: What are the features of AMD AMD Fusion Utility for Desktop utility?
The feature set includes the following:

Close open applications

Shut down non-essential services

Speed up your HDD

Disable the power save features of your PC

Tune your processor and GPU

Q: What are the advantages of running the AMD AMD Fusion Utility for Desktop utility?

It allows built-in and custom profiles to be run at the touch of a button.

Q: What is the advantage of performance tuning?

Tuning allows changing the processor and GPU for higher or lower speeds than the part was rated for by the manufacturer. *

Q: What applications are related to AMD AMD Fusion Utility for Desktop utility?

AMD OverDrive™ and ATI Catalyst™ Control Center with AMD OverDrive™ are the two applications that can be used to enhance AMD AMD Fusion Utility for Desktop utility.

Q: What are the hardware and software requirements/configuration?

AMD AMD Fusion Utility for Desktop utility version 1.0 or later will run on:

  • 32 or 64-bit Microsoft® Windows XP
  • 32 or 64-bit Microsoft® Windows Vista
  • 32 or 64-bit Microsoft® Windows 7
  • Administrator account
  • A system with an AMD CPU.

 

AMD OverDrive version 2.1.2 or later will work with:

  • AMD Phenom™ processor-based system.
  • AMD 7-series chipsets (excluding 740G and 780V) – 790FX, 790GX, 790X, 780G.

 

ATI Catalyst Control Center 8.6 or later with AMD OverDrive works with:

  • ATI Radeon™ HD 3600 series graphic cards or better.

 

Q: What platforms are not supported?

Systems that do not have an AMD CPU.

Q: What are the differences between the three built-in profiles?

The Basic profile closes minimum services.

The Advanced profile enables you to close more services and turn on Boost.

The Expert profile enables you to close even more services and enable tuning of the processor and graphics card.

Q: What are the possible tasks that it might not terminate?

AMD AMD Fusion Utility for Desktop utility is designed to not close services for Windows® that are deemed vital to the operation of Windows.

Q: What are the potential security risks with using the application?

When running AMD Fusion, there is an option to disable built in Windows security features and Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. It is imperative to turn off AMD AMD Fusion Utility for Desktop utility when not needed.

Q: What are the dangers in performance tuning?

It may shorten the life of your computer. Q: How do I get to the help file?

After launching the application, go into Advanced Mode by clicking the "+" sign. Once there click the "+" mark.

Q: How do I determine what version I am running?

After launching the application, minimize it to the system tray by clicking the down arrow. Click the icon and choose "About".

Q: How do I get to Advanced Mode?

After launching the application go into Advanced Mode by clicking the "+" sign.

Q: How do I change profiles in simple mode?

At this time it is not possible.

Q: How do I launch Catalyst Control Center and AMD OverDrive in Advanced Mode?

Click the "+" symbol to open Catalyst Control Center.

Click the "+" symbol to launch AMD OverDrive.

Q: What are AMD OverDrive AutoClock and Catalyst Control Center AutoTune

AMD OverDrive AutoClock is a performance tuning function designed to automatically adjust the clock of the CPU and motherboard. This action is needed to engage the AMD OverDrive performance tuning from AMD AMD Fusion Utility for Desktop.
